COMER ADDS TO AXLE FAMILY
DIESEL PROGRESS INTERNATIONAL EDITION
BY ROBERTA PRANDI Comer Industries has announced a major redesign of its axle range with the aim of targeting
off-highway vehicles and, specifically,
moving into the telescopic boom handler market.
The first step of this process was the
launch of the Series S228 axles, derived
from the previous S220 series and designed for vehicles above 10 ton gross
vehicle weight and telescopic boom
handlers with 2 to 4 ton lifting capacities.
At that time, Comer Industries also
announced another new axle series
to follow, the S128, which was recently launched.
Comer’s Sales Director for Commercial and Industrial Components,
Cesare Angeloni, said the new steering
and rigid Series S128 axles (replacing
the existing S120 product series) are
suitable for a wide range of vehicles,
such as telescopic handlers with up to a
3 ton lifting capacity, compact loaders
with up to an 11 ton gross vehicle
weight (including agricultural vehicles)
and for some special on-highway applications such as road sweepers and airport tow tractors.
“Comer Industries has focused the
design of the new axle family around
the most updated technical requirements, which OEMs are now facing for
the new emissions regulations stages,”
said Angeloni.
“Tier 4 is coming in place shortly and it
will have a tremendous impact for the
industry. This has been paramount for
our design and process engineers — to
optimize the design and the process on
cost and efficiency and to develop new
innovative features and functions with
this in mind.
“This makes the new product unique
— a new design in a new world,”
said Angeloni.
The S128 axles reach a maximum
static and dynamic load of 12 000 and
6600 daNm, respectively. The output
torque is 2400 daNm.
The new series is available with differ-
ent track widths — from 1390 to 1670
mm for the rigid version and 1390 to
1810 mm for the steering version.
